F-101 Voodoo

The F-101 Voodoo has been developed in by the American company McDonnell Aircraft Co. in 1954. Original the aircraft was build as a long range bomber and a interception jet for the US Strategic Air Command.
But because they were also working on the development of a high-altitude bomber and escort fighter is came superfluous. The F-101 voodoo came by the US Tactical Air Command.

General

The F-101 was build in 2 version: a air-defence jet and a reconnaissance airplane. There have been manufactured more than 800 planes for the US Air Force. The most used version was the F-101B interception jet which had a crew of a pilot and a radar-officer.
 

Missions
The United States of America where the first who had the ability of supersonic photo-reconnaissance airplanes (RF-101A and RF-101C). These were used during the Cuba crisis and in 1960 in South-East Asia.

Technical

The aircraft had a maximum speed of 1100 miles/ hour. It had a armament of weapons like GAR 2A guided missiles. 1 aircraft had a price of 1.8 million dollar in that time. Now, a modern fighter jet will cost approximately 50-80 million euros.
