F-101 Voodoo

The F-101 Voodoo has been developed by the American company McDonnell Aircraft Co. in 1954. Original the aircraft was build as a long range bomber and a interception jet for the US Strategic Air Command.
But because they were also working on the development of a high-altitude bomber and escort fighter is came superfluous. The F-101 voodoo came by the US Tactical Air Command.

The F-101 was build in 2 version: a air-defence jet and a reconnaissance airplane. There have been manufactured more than 800 planes for the US Air Force. The most used version was the F-101B interception jet which had a crew of a pilot and a radar-officer.

The USA were the first who had the ability of supersonic photo-reconnaissance airplanes (RF-101A and RF-101C). These were used during the Cuba crisis and in 1960 in South-East Asia.

The aircraft had a maximum speed of 1100 miles/ hour. It had armament like GAR 2A guided missiles. The cost for 1 aircraft were 1.8 million dollar.
