F/A-18C
and D
SpecificationsThe F/A-18 C and D version having in comparison with the A and B version: AMRAAM missiles, better night opportunities thanks to a NAVFLIR pod, a upgrade for the APG-73 radar which brings better display pictures in the cockpit. A disadvantage with the C model on the aircraft carriers was that the bring-back loading had to be less than 5,500 pound. If the the pilots had too much they must drop into the sea (bombs are very expensive). F/A-18E and F The advanced F/A-18 E and F Super Hornet in comparison to their predecessors; they can fly longer, have a larger fuel tank, lower fuel use (Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption), larger wings, 2 more pylons for bombs, they can carry the most advanced bombs like JDAM. The Super hornet has also a larger bring back capacity. The Super hornet is quipped with the Raytheon AN/APG-79 AESA Radar, ATFLIR, Forward-looking infrared targeting pod, AN/ALE-50 towed decoy, laser-guided weapons such as the Paveway and JSOW.
Electronics Some new systems are: a ATFLIR target indicating system pod, MIDS link 16 system, JHMCS which delivers information from the Head Up Display at the helmsight of the pilot. The Super Hornet can also be used as a tanker. The Super hornet is very improved. All new Hornets will get the new SHARP reconnaissance system.
