Agusta The A-109/AW-109 helicopter is light-weight military helicopter developed by the Italian company Agusta (now Agusta-Westland). The maximum speed is about 305km/h (clean configuration) and the action radius is about 400 km. |

Operators The agusta is in service with the armed forces of at least: 1. Belgium 2. Italy 3. Benin 4. South-Africa 5. United-Kingdom 6. Egypt 1-3. Belgium, Italy, Benin The Belgian, Italian and Beninese Armies operate with an armored version of the A-109. 4. South-Africa The air force of South-Africa (South-African Air Force, SAAF) has ordered 30 A-109LUH by Agusta-Westland to replace the Alouette III helicopter fleet. It's not a special combat version but a transport (light utility helicopter) version. However it can be equipped for attack missions. The first 5 helicopters are manufactured in the Agusta-Westland facility Cascina Costa in Italy, the other 25 will be manufactured by Denel Aviation in Johannesburg. The helicopters will be used for law enforcement, surveillance, troop transport and SAR missions. They are equipped with a glass cockpit, improved light capability (including night vision goggles) and advanced en avionics and communication systems. A-109 LUH for the SAAF 5. United-Kingdom 6. Egypt On June 16th 2009, the Ministry of Defence of Egypt placed an order for 3 AW-103 Power helicopters. They will be operated by the Air Force for Emergency Medical Service. |
