The S-70 helicopter is a derived version of the H-60 family black hawk
helicopters for foreign operators. The
S-70 export version can be delivered in different configurations. General
types are: VIP transport, utility, search and rescue (SAR) and a naval
version. There have been delivered more than 583 S-70 helicopters to 24
countries.
Operators
The S-70A helicopter is used by countries like: Japan, Turkey and the
Australian Army. The S-70B version by Turkey, Australian Navy, Greece,
Japan and Spain (S-70 FMS).
Turkey
The Turkish Army has a fleet of approximately 100 S-70A/D helicopters.
In 2006, Turkey
placed an order for 17 S-70B helicopters. In 2011, a 18th S-70B was added
to the deal.
China
China had ordered 20 S-70C-II utility helicopters in 1984. After the weapon
embargo from the USA, most of the helicopters are not airworthy anymore.
In 2006 a person was arrested in Taiwan who tried to transport Black Hawk
engines (T700)
to China.
